TRIPLE-IceCraft on the Langenferner

In the period 23.-30.06., researchers from the III Physical Institute B were on the Langenferner Glacier in Italy for a field test. There, the TRIPLE-IceCraft, which is being developed together with GSI GmbH from Aachen, was tested in ice for the first time. In early 2023, the melt probe will be deployed at greater ice depths of up to 200 m at Neumayer Station III in Antarctica. A particularly challenging aspect of this is that the TRIPLE-IceCraft supply cable must be unwound from the probe during the melting process and rewound back into the probe during the melting process.
