Scientists of the Institute honored with the IceCube Group Impact Award

Erik Ganster, Jöran Stettner and Christian Haack (now at TU Munich) were awarded the IceCube Group Impact Award 2020. Together with an international team of other IceCube scientists, they succeeded in introducing a novel MonteCarlo method (Snowstorm, arXiv:1909.01530 [hep-ex]) into the data analysis of IceCube. The key is the simultaneous and continuous variation of different systematic uncertainties within a single data set, which enables more efficient model fits of the data.
